Curia refuses to delete information about ex-Catholics

In a letter dated November 14th 2011, NION made a request to the Curia on behalf of 23 ex-Catholic citizens. This request asked for the deletion of all the data held by the Curia on these individuals, including baptisimal records. NION received a reply through a letter dated 16th December 2011, informing us that the Curia had no intention of complying with this request. This creates a scenario where ex-Catholics do not have any control over their data, despite having withdrawn their consent at it being processed. This is not acceptable to NION, and we will shortly be seeking the intervention of the Maltese Data Protection Commissioner.

For more information see the press release issued by NION on the subject on January 8th 2012.

Next NION Meeting

The next NION meeting will be held on Saturday 24th September at 60A, Strait Street Valletta at 7.30pm. This meeting is for all those interested in using legal means to leave the Church and to have all their data which is held by this institution deleted. It is important that you bring your ID card, your baptism certificate, and a copy of each. If you are unable to obtain your baptism certificate on time, you are invited to attend anyway, and to send the required documentation by post on a later date.
